When it comes to this case a lot of media was staying up to date and has had relevant news throughout the last 50 years since the case started and still has a ways to go. To start, the medias themselves most likely had difficulty getting information due to police stations not sharing evidence. This led to more being unknown and eventually became a easy way to scare the public in the media through fear. He would even involve himself directly to the SFPD via phone calls from different locations about where he has left previous victims and who will be next. Outside of the police station were the journalist and public wanting to understand what happened, and when it became public there was only more to come against the public.
