blog 6 media coverage snapshot
When it comes to this case a lot of media was staying up to date and has had relevant news throughout the last 50 years since the case started and still has a ways to go. To start, the medias themselves most likely had difficulty getting information due to police stations not sharing evidence. This led to more being unknown and eventually became a easy way to scare the public in the media through fear. He would even involve himself directly to the SFPD via phone calls from different locations about where he has left previous victims and who will be next. Outside of the police station were the journalist and public wanting to understand what happened, and when it became public there was only more to come against the public. The main person affected by the media was actually a journalist by the name of Paul Avery. Creating publicity of the case to the world by Paul Avery created a target on his back from the Zodiac killer who wrote him a letter saying : "Peek a boo! You're doomed. From your secret pal". After the letter was received, instead of hiding in fear surprisingly Paul and and the media / other reporters actually came together for a campaign to stand up against the killer, showing they have no fear. They even used humor to help while naming this the "I am not Paul Avery" campaign, while wearing buttons stating they don't want to be the next target like Paul. To add to that throughout the years the Zodiac sent in letters to the police stations, media headquarters, and even chronicles building. Even lately news has covered the cyphers left by the killer and new decryptions being exposed.
